­ On the auspicious occasion of Lord Buddha’s Birthday, though there were hearty celebrations in his birth place Lumbini; Tilaurakot, the place where Lord Buddha lived 39 years of his life, has been neglected. Though Tilaurakot is the centre of belief for the followers of Buddhism, no remarkable celebrations have been observed there. As the government and the political parties’ leaders have focused and valued only Lumbini, ancient Kapilvastu has been discarded every next day, locals said. “spending lots of money cannot celebrate Buddha’s Birthday unless it is celebrated in the holy place; though 133 sites related to Buddha exist here, no program has been brought in this district; and today, even on the auspicious occasion of Buddha’s Birthday, celebrating no program in this holy place, is shameful,” said a local. Making image of Lumbini in mind linking to Buddha but making no image of Tilaurakot from government side is the main reason due to which the place has been discarded, locals believe. In Kapilvastu, there are more than 100 historical places linked to Buddha, which include Tilaurakot’s Durbar Square, Kudan, Niglihawa, Gotihawa, Araurakot, Sishaniya. Actually, Buddha’s Birthday was celebrated in many places though the special celebrations were done in Lumbini. Though Buddha’s Birthday was on Saturday this year, most of the schools have celebrated it on Wednesday in the eve of the Buddha’s Birthday.
