Manipur ambush: Six Assam Rifles men killed in attack

May 24 2016 ­ On Sunday, six soldiers were killed when an Assam Rifles convoy was ambushed in Manipur’s Chandel district by extremists. No organization has made claim of attacking the troops. The attack had been done at afternoon on last Sunday. The assailants also grasped four AK­47 rifles, an INSAS rifle, a light machine gun and ammunitions, before escapingfrom the spot. It has been assumed that more than one group of extremists have attacked in integrated interest. According to the information the Assam Rifle troops were returning after inspecting the bribery in the area, where extremists had attacked them. While escaping from the spot, the attackershave alsograsped AK­47 rifles (4 sets), INSAS rifle (1 set), light machine gun (1 set) and ammunitions. A high level meeting has been held to discuss on Assam violence. The meeting has said elimination of extremists is necessary. "Assam Rifle is the oldest paramilitary force; and they know the entire area as theirhand line; in spite of their intelligence if they are ambushed, it indicates that the assailants were well­equipped, well­trained; and they had every type of intelligence; they know that the force had gone to inspect the landslide; in many ways, China is helping them by – training them, funding them, providing them the intelligence and supplying them the weapons," said PKSahagal, Defense Specialist. "In North East, insurgency has been made as a cottage industry; the state government itself is involved to continue the insurgency so that the centre," said DG Boxy, Defense Specialist.
