Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel will table a budget of Rs 1,048 billion for the next fiscal year, in Parliament on Saturday.Sources involved in preparing the budget confirmed that the size of the budget for fiscal year 2016/17 will be 27 percent bigger than for the current fiscal year. The budget for the current fiscal year is Rs 819 billion. The reasons behind breaking the general trend of 15 percent average increment in the budget size every year are the greater budget allocations for education, health and drinking water as well as for infrastructure projects, investment in reconstruction, and election programs. Sources informed that Finance Minister Paudel was bent on increasing the budget to this extent although technocrats at the Ministry of Finance were of the view that he should not do so.
