– Most of the old houses of Sankhu, an ancient city of Kathmandu which carries the historical importance had been demolished by the devastating earthquake that occurred last year on Baisakh 12, 2072 but yet the debris have not been removed completely though it has already past a year. 114 people in Shankarapur municipality and 63 people in Sankhu Bazzar died when earthquake demolished the physical structures. It has been 13 months since the earthquake had ruined the settlements at Sankhu city even though the locals have not been able to see and meet the government means government had not reached there to help. The locals of Sankhu district who even had not been monitored by the government once have begun to build their houses themselves by selling their lands and taking loans. Jitendra Shrestha, local of Sankhu said however we have to make the house as we need to stay. So, people who have money will make the house easily and those with whom they do not have money will manage to build their house taking loan or selling their fields. Till when we need to stay in temporary tent, like this we could not always stay in tent so we have begun to make house ourselves without waiting the help form government. As we do not have hope that government, municipality or any other concerned agencies will help them to rebuild their homes.
