KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress and CPN Maoist Centre filed a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at the Parliament on Wednesday.
The two parties have claimed in the motion that the incumbent Oli-led government had lost the support of majority of lawmakers as the CPN Maoist Centre withdrew its support from it on Tuesday.
The CPN United, which has three members in the Parliament, also supported the two parties.
CPN Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed the motion while NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba seconded it.
According to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti, 255 lawmakers of the NC and Maoist Centre have signed the no-confidence motion.
Dahal along with party’s chief whip Hit Raj Pandey and NC chief whip Chin Kaji Shrestha submitted the motion to General Secretary of the Parliament Manohar Prasad Bhattarai.
The no-confidence motion was filed against PM Oli after a meeting of the ruling parties held on Tuesday evening concluded that the Prime Minister would face the Parliament instead of resigning.
The Maoist party had withdrawn its support from the Oli-led government, charging the Prime Minister’s party CPN-UML failed to implement the past agreements signed with it.
